We are a group of women, and men, living on the East End of Long Island,
who STAND UNITED with Women in Black around the world
for peace and justice for all people.
We are alarmed about the power-hungry intentions of the United States Government in the Middle East and throughout the world in what appears to be a quest for Empire. We fear endless wars. We call for a withdrawal of the Israeli military from the Occupied Territories, a return to the 1967 borders, a dismantling of the Israeli Settlements, an end to Palestinian suicide bombings, and an end to U.S. military support of the occupation. We believe that real patriotism is upholding the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights, with a genuine commitment to caring for the people of this country who don't have what they need for their homes, health, education, and jobs. And with the cuts in programs for veterans, we are concerned about what will happen to our soldiers when they return home. MAIN STREET AND THE WHARF |
The violence in the Middle East affects the whole world, and U.S. policy in the region is driven largely by the question of oil and a grab for power. We stand in support of Israelis and Palestinians working for peace, and support the right of the Palestinian and Israeli peoples to have their own states side by side. Our government sends millions of dollars to the Israeli military, supporting an occupation that causes unending suffering to both Palestinians and Israelis, while needs here at home go unmet.
Thousands of uncounted Iraqi people have been killed in the 2003 invasion, and the war is not over yet. We know that billions of dollars have gone towards invasion while we witness another kind of war at home; drastic cuts in social services; the shredding of the Constitution and civil liberties with increased racial profiling, detentions, censorship, "guilt by association" under the guise of "homeland security." |
